Thousands of customers lose power across Pierce County from high winds overnight
Thousands across Pierce County are facing electrical outages Tuesday morning after heavy winds damaged power lines Monday night.
Winds and heavy rainfall were from a storm that was passing into western Washington Monday night. A wind advisory is in place until 9 p.m. Tuesday. There is a coastal flood advisory until 7 p.m. Tuesday. That means the heavy rain could lead to flooding in parking lots, roads and parks, according to the National Weather Service.
As of 8 a.m., Tacoma Public Utilities reported about 17 power outages in the Pierce County area with 1,852 of its customers affected.
In the Ruston area, there are about 1,546 customers without power since 5 a.m, according to the Tacoma Public Utilities power outage map.
In Spanaway, 792 customers were being impacted from the outage since 7:01 a.m. In Puyallup near Woodland Avenue East, 492 customers have been without power since 4:29 a.m, according to the Puget Sound Energy outage map.
Near Victor Falls City Park in Bonney Lake, 358 customers have lost power since 6:07 a.m, according the PSE map.
There are also outages scattered around the South Hill area. About 282 customers lost power since 12:18 a.m. near the South Hill Community Park, the PSE map said.
There will be rainfall in Tacoma for the rest of the day on Tuesday. There will be wind with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour. Later on Tuesday night, there will be more rain and a chance of snow showers before 1 a.m, according to the NWS.
