Election: Hans Zeiger, Voters Beware

Re: “Elect Zeiger” (TNT editorial. 9/7).

The TNT editorial stated that Hans Zeiger has “matured into a statesman” and “seems well suited” for the Senate. The evidence is to the contrary.

Zeiger’s professional experience is slim: he completed college/graduate studies in 2009, served as an intern with the Freedom Foundation and was a Senior Fellow at the American Civil Rights Union, both of which are reactionary activist groups. It appears his first paying job was the 25th Legislative District state representative in 2010.

The TNT forgives Zeiger’s views on public education and the Girl Scouts; however, he supports the Boy Scouts creed of “morally straight” and “clean” to deny membership to homosexuals, Unitarians, agnostics, atheists, and other religious liberals. He calls Islam a cult, opposes a woman’s right to choose, and slams organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Zeiger deleted many of his postings from the internet without ever apologizing or claiming to have changed his positions. Indeed, he authored two books currently available from Amazon containing the same beliefs.

Is Mr. Zeiger a “mature statesman” or a politician with a veneer adopted to conceal his extreme reactionary views? Voters beware of advancing his political career into the Senate and potentially onward.
