Legislature: Fine lawmakers for missed deadlines

Re: “Court fines over lack of funding for schools hits $67 million,” (TNT, 6/13).

I do not understand why it takes so long for our lovable legislators to do their job.

Where will the money come from to eventually pay the fines levied to date by the courts? According to the article “... legislators aren’t paying it themselves, so they don’t really care.”

I think it is time they did care. The courts should rule that the legislators pay from their own pockets. If they don’t, we the people should implement policies that ensure they do or else de-elect them.

Accountability is non-existent in the state of Washington. It is time to put teeth in our legislative processes.
