Mayor’s race: Merritt earns some credit for development

Re: “Campaign dispute erupts over Point Ruston,” (TNT, 10/20).

The cease-and-desist order issued by developer Loren Cohen to Tacoma mayor candidate Jim Merritt is pure political pandering to Merritt’s opponent, Victoria Woodards, just as ballots are being mailed.

I live and vote in Gig Harbor, so have no skin in this game. However, I marginally participated in the environmental studies and remediation of the Asarco site that began in the 1980s.

Perhaps Cohen is not aware of the foundation laid by that work for his current development. He needs to share his credit for Point Ruston with the preceding work of many environmental scientists, engineers, planners and contractors, including that performed by Merritt.
