Split families: No outrage when it happens to citizens
Re: “Tacoma won’t abet migrant family crisis,” (TNT editorial, 6/27).
I was intrigued by the contrast between your editorial support for migrant families (more correctly illegal immigrant families) and the article on page 4A the same day about the woman who was arrested at the Taste of Tacoma event.
She was handcuffed and taken to jail and her child was left at the park in the care of a friend.
This is standard procedure every day in our country. No one seems to be outraged about that. Why the outrage when illegal immigrants are treated in the same manner?
They commit a crime by entering our country illegally and their children are taken and placed in protective custody while they go to jail.
The person to blame for these separations is the parent who chooses to bring his/her child into the U.S. illegally.
There are 20 legal entry points at our southern border where they can seek asylum. Choosing to cross illegally endangers their child. Who would do that?
Don’t blame the Trump administration for something that is the fault of those trying to come here illegally. Put the blame where it belongs.
