Impeachment: Two stars emerge from wreckage

While the impeachment process ground into dust some reputations – like all the Republican senators who shamelessly voted to acquit our train wreck of a president, or Allen Dershowitz, who simply destroyed any credibility he may once have had – some emerged from the fray untarnished and heroic.

I’m referring to Rep. Adam Schiff and Sen. Mitt Romney.

Schiff, as lead Democratic impeachment manager, laid out his case with surgical precision. His arguments were logical and persuasive, his conduct respectful and forthright.

His concluding presentation, which made me stand up and cheer, should be mandatory study at every law school in America.

Romney also came away with his dignity and self respect intact. One of only two GOP senators to vote for witnesses and the only one to vote yes on the first article of impeachment, he showed extraordinary courage in the face of overwhelming pressure from his gutless colleagues to acquit.

He deserves the admiration of every American who believes senators should follow the rule of law and honor their oath to the Constitution.
