Elections: Losing faith in core pillars of democracy

It is disheartening to watch what is happening to our country. Lies, smears, innuendo and often hate spew forth from leaders, media and on social media platforms. Anyone who criticizes is an enemy and faces retaliation by tweet or pep rally propaganda.

Sadly, many people seem to thrive on it and are proud.

Will the 2020 election be free and fair? I have little expectation that our government will move to protect our election or the systems that guard it. There are election security bills on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s desk that will never see the light of day.

Will Trump allow cybersecurity people to act, or will they be asked to stand down? It may be left to individual states and hopefully tech companies to try to protect the national treasure.

Remember that democracy lost is not easily regained.
