Debate: Trump caused mess; don’t minimize it

Re: “Debate heavy on insults and light on substance,” (TNT, 10/1).

I was disappointed reading this front-page article. I know the basic story is true, because I did watch the debates (or should I say verbal fist fight).

The gist of the article is that both sides were out of control, and they were. But the article glossed over the “why” of the debate being out of control. It took six paragraphs before any mention of the president’s behavior.

Trump continuously badgered Biden for a third of the debate before Biden lost his composure and started fighting back. Trump never once turned to the camera and spoke to me, the American people.

The only redeeming factor in the article was the last sentence: “Trump was intent on bickering with Biden, while the former vice president mostly did his best to talk directly to voters.”

That should have been the lead.
