State legislators got it right in banning openly carried firearms in public areas of the Capitol (TNT, 1-29), and hopefully they will go further and banish openly carried weapons from all places of business or anyplace in the public sector.
The reason they gave was lumped into the category of any prop used for a demonstration was banned, but the real reason is that an openly carried weapon is intimidation. Who would want to work in an environment where people with guns are looking at you as if to say if you don't do what I want to do, I can hurt you?
The same idea prevails in my everyday world. I can think of no reason why someone has to have an openly carried weapon other than intimidation. For all I know they may be close to having a lapse in common sense, mental ability may be impaired or they are really angry at something.
Law-abiding citizens carrying open firearms have, can have and will have periods of mental health difficulties, and carrying a loaded gun makes it real easy to use it. There is no need for open-carried firearms. They scare and intimidate me.
