I've always found my Tacoma city councilman, Anders Ibsen, to be a helpful and responsive representative. This is precisely why I am so confused by the erratic behavior of some of his council colleagues and the contradictory statements of one of his twp opponents.
One day before the end of filing week, his opponent was running for a citywide council seat and had no endorsements. Then, suddenly, he switches into filing for Ibsen's seat and out of nowhere the mayor and some council members immediately endorse him?
To paraphrase columnist Matt Driscoll, this smells like a fishy political coup.
What's so striking, however, is how Ibsen has chosen to ignore this drama and maintain a positive campaign focused on the issues. He displays maturity and professionalism that is sadly so lacking in modern politics.
Throughout his four years representing me, Ibsen has focused on improving our neighborhood. He definitely has my vote again.
