Refugees: US right to welcome Syrians
Since 9/11, 1.5 million lawful permanent residents, asylees and refugees from majority Muslim nations have been admitted to the United States. Not one has committed an act of terrorism in the U.S.
In an act of compassion (which Pope Francis advocated for last month), President Obama wants to bring in 10,000 Syrian refugees who have been brutalized by a dictator and the Islamic State to the point that they had to flee the country.
In light of this, why are the Republican governors and the Republican presidential candidates opposed to allowing these refugees into the U.S.? Is it there knee-jerk reaction to oppose everything the president proposes? Or are they no longer the passionate conservatives of the Bush era?
