Emissions: Liberals' plans would have little effect

Re: “Unlocking carbon gridlock in Washington a matter of inclusion” (TNT, 1-3).

Once again a political snow job from the governor and the liberal left. Let’s look at real figures.

People are the real reason for carbon pollution, and don’t forget about the livestock and poultry that support the populations. The world population is roughly 7 billion. Asia and Africa account for 72 percent of the population. Europe accounts for 12 percent. South America and Australia about 7.5 percent, leaving roughly 8.5 percent for the entire North American continent.

Washington state has roughly 7 million, according to 2014 figures, or just about 0.010 percent of the world’s population.

So what I see in this initiative is a situation where a flea is going to pull an elephant out of a mud hole. Really?

Oh, and of course it has been declared “revenue neutral.” What a sham. There is no way that this initiative or Gov. Jay Inslee’s rhetoric is going to make any dent in global carbon emissions but will surely make a dent in your pocketbook. It’s the Democrats’ mantra.
