Driving delays short near Oso, but midweek detours start next week

Access to the outdoor recreation hub of Darrington is mostly normal, with only short delays on State Route 530 in the area of the Oso landslide. However, midweek detours could add 15 minutes to the trip starting next week .

Traffic will be detoured to a Seattle City Light access road for as many as three 31-hour stretches in August.

The detour is scheduled to be used from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Aug. 21-28.

During the detours, crews are installing two new culverts, completing paving, striping and installing guardrails.

When the detour is not in use, flaggers are controlling traffic in the area while workers repair damage, but delays are typically short. A flier distributed at the Darrington Ranger Station encourages visitors to allow for an extra 10 minutes to drive through the slide area.
