Skagit River Salmon Festival

WHAT: The third annual event celebrating the return of salmon to the Skagit River has moved to a new venue this year. Also new this year is the Puget Sound DockDogs competition and the Kidz Zone. The event also includes live entertainment; local brews and food; native storytellers and cultural activities; artisan creations; arts and crafts and games.

WHEN: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.

WHERE: Waterfront Park next to the Swinomish Casino & Lodge, 12885 Casino Drive, Anacortes.

KIDZ ZONE: Run by the Boys & Girls Club of Skagit County, the area will feature activities that focus on a healthy lifestyles, developing character and citizenship, and academic success. The area also will include Fin, the 25-foot migrating chum salmon.

DOCKDOGS: This canine event uses a 40-foot long pool for three events — big air (longest jump), extreme vertical (highest jump) and speed retrieve (fastest to the end of the pool). Dogs of all abilities are welcome to compete. Events begin at 10 a.m. Rregistration is $20 in advance or $25 the day of the event.
