Weekend Getaway for Sept. 4

PORT TOWNSEND WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL

WHAT: Sometimes called the “Woodstock of wooden boats,” visitors can tour wooden boats, learn how to build them and even catch a screening of “Life of Pi.” The festival includes events for kids. The event typically includes more than 300 wooden vessels on land and water.

WHEN: Friday (Sept. 5) through Sunday.

WHERE: Point Hudson, Port Townsend.

HISTORY: This is the festival’s 38th year.

GETTING THERE: From U.S. Highway 101, take state Route 20 into Port Townsend. Use the park-and-ride shuttle at the Safeway on your left as you enter town. Organizers say these shuttles are the best way to get to the event.

COST: $15 per day for adults, $10 for students, seniors and military. Multi-day passes are $30 and $20.

OF NOTE: Tickets can be ordered online at woodenboat.org. The event usually ends with dancing and live music until midnight Friday and Saturday.
