The number of volunteers in 92 countries who helped pick up more than 12.3 million pounds of trash during International Coastal Cleanup on Sept. 20, according to Ocean Conservancy. That included more than 500 people who worked on Washington beaches from Cape Disappointment to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. That is up from 150 participants who took part in the 2013 effort. The next coastwide effort will be April 25, 2015, which will be organized by Washington CoastSavers. Learn more at coastsavers.org.
