That is the number of chinook and coho salmon caught by recreational anglers off Washington’s coast this season. The 40,071 chinook caught represents 80 percent of the guideline for the season, while the 140,195 coho caught was 75.9 percent of the season’s quota. The season opened in mid-June and closed in late-September. This year’s total catch compares with the combined catch of 78,137 salmon caught during the 2013 recreational fishery on the coast.
