Swan Creek Park site for Salmon Saturday program

Swan Creek Park will be the site for Salmon Saturday as salmon return to the creek to spawn.

Participants will have the opportunity to take a tour of the park to see the spawning salmon, take part in children’s activities, and gather salmon-friendly home and gardening information.

There also will be activities for people of all ages where they can learn about what a watershed is and what can be done to protect valuable water resources.

The 373-acre park is located between East Tacoma and unincorporated Pierce County. Metro Parks Tacoma owns 290 acres of the park, while Pierce County owns the remaining acreage. In addition to the creek, other park features include a wooded canyon, upland forest, paved and natural trails, a community garden and new mountain bike trails.

The event will run 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Organizers are recommending people use the Canyon entrance to the park, at 2820 Pioneer Way E., Tacoma.

The event is presented by The Friends of Swan Creek Watershed, Tacoma EnviroChallenger Program, Tacoma Nature Center, the Puyallup Tribe fisheries department, Pierce Conservation District and other community partners.
