Peace Arch State Park hosting Treaty of Ghent bicentennial celebration

Christmas Eve marks the bicentennial of the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812, and a celebration is planned for at the state park commemorating the peace treaty.

The United States Canada Peace Anniversary Association will celebrate Dec. 24 at the Peace Arch State Park in Blaine at the U.S.-Canada border. The open house event is 3-7 p.m. in the park’s American Kitchen, 19 A Street, Blaine. A Discover Pass is required.

The event includes historical displays, music, people in costumes, refreshments and a commemoration at the arch at 6 p.m.

The arch was built in 1921 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the treaty.
