Windless Kite Festival

WHAT: This event is a blend of indoor kite flying competitions, performances and demonstrations. The festival is hosted by The World Kite Museum. The 14th annual festival takes place during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.

WHEN: 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 17-18.

WHERE: Long Beach High School gymnasium, Washington and Fourth streets, Long Beach.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: Among the scheduled events are the open individual indoor unlimited competition, the main event each year, and trick flying.

SPECIAL PERFORMER: This year’s featured flyer is Mario Di Lucca from Victoria, British Columbia. Originally from Argentina, Di Luccas has been a serious kite flyer since 2003. Adept at flying indoors and outdoors, Di Lucca can fly an array of single, dual and quad line stunt kites. He also has won awards at the Washington State International Kite Festival for the kites he has built.

COST: By donation.

OF NOTE: Organizers recommend visitors to dress warmly because the gym not be heated during the event. The World Kite Museum is the only one of its kind in the United States, and has a collection of more than 1,500 kites from 26 countries. Learn more at worldkitemuseum.com.
