Hikers and walkers can add a new dimension to their winter outings by joining local plant experts to discover the beauty and learn how to identify 25 local shrubs and trees without their leaves.

Offered by the Native Plant Salvage Foundation, the Winter Twig Identification field class will be at a west Olympia-area nature trail Jan. 25. Participants can choose from two sessions: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 1-3:30 p.m.

For paying the $5 fee, participants will receive a handout and have the opportunity to purchase the book “Winter in the Woods.”

Workshop details and directions will be sent to all participants in advance.
