WHAT: This is the 10 anniversary of GroundFrog Day is, a very tongue-in-cheek play on the more famous Groundhog Day. It’s actually a fun attempt to battle the winter doldrums, and get a jump on the prediction offered by Punxsutawney Phil back in Pennsylvania. The annual event is held on Feb. 1, or the Saturday closest to that date.
WHEN: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
WHERE: First Street and Avenue A gazebo in Snohomish.

THE BIG EVENT: At noon, the frog known as Snohomish Slew will arrive via a vintage limousine and be escorted by Princess Amphibiana Kristyl Osborne. He will then offer his “frognostication” on what the weather will be like for the final six weeks of winter. Will it remain foggy and soggy, or will Slew forecast an early arrival of spring?
OTHER ACTIVITIES: There will be kids games, such as hip hop scotch, dancing and face painting. There also will be live entertainment by Tim Noah of Thumbnail Theater. Snohomish firefighters will be hand on with one of the community’s fire trucks. Anniversary cupcakes will be served.
