Adventure gear item of the week

Kids’ bucket hat

THE SITUATION: Whether it seems like it or not, warmer weather is coming, and that means parents need to focus on kids’ sun protection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unprotected skin can be damaged by UV rays in just 15 minutes of exposure, and it recommends a combination of prevention methods, including having little ones wear a hat that shades the face, scalp, neck and ears.

A SOLUTION: Sunday Afternoons’ Kids’ Fun Bucket Hat is a fun, fashionable way to provide that protection.

THE DETAILS: Made from a lightweight nylon material that is rated UPF 50-plus, it has a 2 1/2 inches-wide brim that helps keep a child’s face and neck safe from harmful rays, with a breakaway chin strap to ensure it stays on his or her active head. It’s also water and stain resistant, so you don’t have to worry about a little inclement weather or the inevitable spot or two. To clean, just hand wash in cold water with mild soap.

Available in infant (up to 6 months), baby (6-24 months), child (2-5 years) and youth (5-9 years) and in a range of colors and prints.

PRICE: $26.
