Visit Whidbey Island for 10th annual farm tour

Whidbey Island Farm Tour

WHAT: The 10th annual event is a chance to see what crops and livestock the island farms are raising, and the items they are producing. There will be the chance to sample locally made cheeses, jams and spirits, learn how farms are raising grass-fed and free-range livestock, and see animals such as llamas, alpacas and horses. There are 12 farms that will be part of the self-guided tour this year.

WHEN: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 12-13.

WHERE: All over the island, but Clinton will be the headquarters.

FARM LIST: Here are the farms that are participating: Wildwood Farm, Hummingbird Farm, Willowood Farm, Rosehip Farm, Greenbank Farm, Strawfield House, South Whidbey Tilth, Whidbey Island Distillery, Abundant Earth Fiber, Shipki Farm Organics, Fern Ridge Alpacas and Glendale Shepherd Dairy.

WHAT TO DO: Among the activities being offered at the farms (it varies by location) are pony rides, hay-ride tours, information booths, rain-barrel train ride, growing demonstrations, tool displays, solar energy displays, apple cider pressing, garden classes, mill tours, weaving and spinning demonstrations and a scavenger hunt.

OTHER EVENTS: Also that weekend, will be the Coupeville and Bayview farmers markets from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 12 and the South Whidbey Tilth farmers market from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 13.
