THE SITUATION: Despite the number of different activity monitors on the market, finding one that does the job without being obtrusive is a surprising challenge.

AN ANSWER: Jawbone’s UP2 has one of the lowest profiles available, and it can operate up to 10 days without needing to charge the battery.

The strap is thin and made from a medical-grade TPU rubber, so you don’t have to worry about it itching or otherwise irritating the skin, and the case is made from anodized aluminum that is splash proof (although you can’t swim with it on).

The UP2 syncs with your mobile device wirelessly to track steps and exercise levels, calories burned and even your sleep quality. The UP app allows you to track your calories and has a Smart Coach feature that has proprietary sensors and algorithms to help you reach your goals, so it can passively track activities without you telling it to. The idle alert is one of the more helpful features, with customizable reminders that motivate you to move your body throughout the day.

THE DETAILS: UP2 includes the monitor, one band, and a magnetic USB charger. The monitor measures 220mm by 11.5mm by 3.0-8.5mm. One size fits most, and it’s available in multiple colors.

PRICE: $99.99.
