Sand and Sawdust Festival

WHAT: This two-day event celebrates the artistic talent and patience needed to create art from sand and wood. On the beach, sculpting teams from novices to experts will compete for more than $8,000 in prizes. Master woodcarvers will have their own competition. The festival draws an estimated 40,000 people to Ocean Shores.

WHEN: June 24-26.

WHERE: Ocean Shores Convention Center, 120 Chance A La Mer W., Ocean Shores, and on the beach at the Chance A La Mer beach approach.

SAND SCULPTING: The main sand sculpting competition will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 25, with the awards at 5 p.m. On June 26, there will be children’s and professional “quick carve” events. In addition to the competitions, there will be free sand sculpting lessons.

CARVING: The chainsaw carving events will take place all three days at the convention center.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS: There also will be live entertainment featuring local and regional acts, auctions and raffles, food, fashion show and vendors.

ADMISSION: It is free to watch, but there is a fee for some events.
