Gather with the clans at the Hood Canal Highland Celtic Festival

Hood Canal Highland Celtic Festival

What: The sixth annual festival will feature a gathering of the clans, sanctioned Highland games, Highland and Celtic entertainment, pipe bands, dancers and vendors. This year’s event is dedicated to the late Tom McDonald, founder of the event.

When: Sept. 3-4. Activities will begin about 9 a.m. each day.

Where: Belfair State Park, 3151 NE state Route 300, Belfair.

Clans gather: Among the clans appearing at the event will be Clan Campbell Society of North America, Clan Chisolm, Clan Donald, Clan Greggor, Clan Muirhead Society and Pacific Northwest Cornish Society.

Entertainment: Among some of the groups scheduled to perform are the Tacoma Scotts Pipe Band, Rye & Barley (Celtic folk music), Cu Mara (Celtic ballads), McRae Scottish Highland Dance School, Margaret Davidson (flautist) and Backwood Irish (Irish folk music).

Other activities: The sanctioned games will include the stone toss, hammer toss and caber toss. There will be demonstrations by the Seattle Knights and sheepdog demonstrations. There also will be food vendors and a beer garden.

Admission: Adults, $15; seniors and military, $13; and children ages 7-14, $10.
