Another December razor clam dig has been approved by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to a statement released by the agency.
The dig will take place Dec. 19-23 on the Washington coast. Long Beach and Twin Harbors are open for digging each day, while Mocrocks is open Dec. 19-21 and Copalis will be open Dec. 20.
“This late December opener will be a great time to stock up on razor clams,” Dan Ayres, WDFW’s coastal shellfish manager, said in a prepared statement. “Smoked razor clams can make a tasty appetizer at a holiday gathering.” He says smoked clams will keep in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.
The best digging is typically an hour or two before low tides. Low tides are 4:41 p.m. Dec. 19, 5:23 p.m. Dec. 20, 6:06 p.m. Dec. 21, 6:48 p.m. Dec. 22 and 7:31 p.m. Dec. 23.
