MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- Miguelangel Sierra hit a grand slam in the second inning, and Cristian Javier allowed just three hits over five innings as the Fayetteville Woodpeckers defeated the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 9-4 on Sunday.
The grand slam by Sierra scored Bryan De La Cruz, Jonathan Arauz, and Michael Papierski to give the Woodpeckers a 4-1 lead.
The Woodpeckers later added single runs in five additional innings to secure the victory.
Javier struck out four while allowing one run.
In the losing effort, the Pelicans recorded a season-high four extra base hits. Aramis Ademan tripled and singled twice, driving in two runs for the Pelicans.
