WrestleMania (Day 1) results and analysis: New champions crowned, and did the “boneyard match” work?

WWE

WWE and it’s biggest event, WrestleMania are in uncharted territory.

For the first time ever, it’s a two night event and not in front of any fans due to the coronavirus. So instead of it being in Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium, it was produced at the WWE’s performance center in Orlando at the end of March. The results have this been pretty locked down for the most part so the results of the two-night event have been highly anticipated. I must say, for one night of WrestleMania and with no crowd around. I believe they nailed it, for one night at least.

What we learned from night one.

Gronk isn’t too bad...but it was just one night.

Former Patriot Rob Gronkowski is an acquired taste.

If you like the frat-boy vibe and party for hours on end, then he’s the type of guy who is perfect for WWE. If you’re a fan of wrestling and watching overly testosterone-filled people go crazy around a ring, then he’s perfect. Gronk started to be annoying but I thought WWE did a great job of not overly using him, I’m optimistic for now…

But give me another 24 hours and that take might change.

Becky Lynch wins, and I think we’re all shocked

So, the way things had been building to the Raw Women’s Championship match between Shayna Baszler and Becky Lynch, it was mirrored “Rocky III”. The cocky champion role played by Lynch steps in to face a tough challenge in Baszler. The champ gets beat in stunning and quick fashion.

None of that happened.

The ladies got plenty of time to work and it was one physical bout. Each getting the best of each other but instead of a submission by the challenger, or champion it was a pin by Lynch to seal the victory.

We may need to see where things go on the Monday Night Raw after Mania. Is the Lynch-Baszler feud over? Or is another chapter on the way.

The “Boneyard Match” was actually….good?

When you hear the term, “Boneyard Match” you think it’s going to be some hockey, over the top spectacle that is over produced. However, it was actually really, really good! The match took place on a pretty neat looking set, you had graves, druids, and some unintentional or intentional blood being shown in the match. You figured The Undertaker would win (which he did) however, WWE did a great job taking what would’ve probably been a conventional match in the ring into something special.

That was just night one, what does night two have in store?
