Hoop it up: Highlights from the 2020 Seattle Storm’s WNBA Schedule

Starting July 25 the WNBA is back and just like the NBA and MLS, the popular women’s basketball league will play their games this season in the state of Florida. Instead of Orlando, they’ll be playing their games on the campus of IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.

Each game will be seen on either ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, or CBS Sports Network. Here is the full schedule for the Storm’s 2020 season taking place at IMG Academy. Here are some of the highlights on the schedule.

Saturday, July 25

-Season opener vs. New York Liberty (9 a.m. on ESPN)

One of the league’s best point guards taking on the top pick in the draft? Yeah you can sign up most, if not all hoops fans for this. While the return of Breanna Stewart will garner some headlines, the matchup between Storm legend Sue Bird and Liberty rookie guard Sabrina Ionescu is the showcase.

Thursday, July 30

Vs. Reigning WNBA Champs, the Washington Mystics (3 p.m. on ESPN)

This game between the last two WNBA Champions is enough for its marquee billing, but now the status of Mystics star Elena Delle Donne up in the air makes the game more interesting. Delle Donne’s pre existing health issues make her very vulnerable when it comes to potentially testing positive for COVID-19. However, the league is essentially forcing her to play despite knowing her condition. It will be interesting to see if Delle Donne is in the lineup for Washington as they take on Seattle.

Saturday, August 1

Friday, September 4

Vs. Los Angeles Sparks

Two longtime regional rivals take their west coast rivalry to the state of Florida. Will Los Angeles be able to rebound after their tumultuous season from a year ago? It will be fascinating to see how the addition of former Lynx star, Simone Augustus plays out with the Sparks in 2020.

Saturday August 8 (Noon on ABC)

Friday, September 11 (7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network)

Vs. Phoenix Mercury

They matched up in the 2018 WNBA Semifinals in an exciting series that saw the Storm advance and eventually win their third championship in team history. Here’s a flashback to that moment, maybe we can see a replay in 2020?
