Tracking local golfers on the PGA Tour: July 26, 2014

This week: RBC Canadian Open, Thursday through Sunday, Royal Montreal Golf Club Blue Course, Montreal.

In the field: Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and University Place’s Michael Putnam.

Third-round scores: Stanley shot a 2-under-par 68, and Putnam had a 1-under 69.

Positions: Stanley (10-under 200) is in third place, and Putnam (7-under 203) is tied for ninth — both trailing leader Jim Furyk (15-under 195).

Recap: Stanley is still right where he needs to be, even if he trails Furyk by five shots. If he stays put, he would earn $387,600, which would vault him well inside the top 125 on the money list. After a couple of early three-putt bogeys, Stanley made a curling, downhill 25-foot putt for birdie on the 15th hole. And after pulling his tee shot into a hazard on the 16th hole, he hit a 9-iron approach shot to 8 feet from the cup and made the putt to save par. … Putnam is still in great shape, too. He made a few long birdie putts, but he followed those with bogeys. His last birdie putt was a 13-footer after he hit his drive into the rough on No. 16.

Tee times Sunday: Putnam at 6:35 a.m. (PDT), and Stanley at
