Tracking local golfers in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Playoffs: Aug. 21-24, 2014

This week: The Barclays, Thursday through Sunday, Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, New Jersey.

In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore and University Place’s Michael Putnam.

World rankings: Moore is 37th, and Putnam is 160th.

2013-14 earnings: Moore has $3.06 million (16th on the PGA Tour), and Putnam has $799,781 (114th on the PGA Tour).

FedEx Cup points standings: Moore has 1,429 points (19th on the PGA Tour), and Putnam has 618 points (89th on the PGA Tour).

The skinny: Moore easily has his best career FedEx playoffs start in 19th place. But The Barclays hasn’t been his best event in the playoffs recently, even though he tied for 25th in 2012 and tied for 24th last season. Before that, he missed cuts in back-to-back appearances. One of those missed cuts was at Ridgewood CC the last time the tournament was held at this site in 2010. He still reached the Tour Championship that year and clinched spots in all four major championships the next season. The Puyallup golfer took last week off after his tied-for-40th effort at the PGA Championship on Aug. 10. … Like Moore, Putnam has his best starting position in the FedEx Cup playoffs. In his only other appearance — in the inaugural playoffs in 2007 — Putnam missed the cut at The Barclays and was eliminated. He was also part of the inaugural Finals a season ago, posting three top-20 finishes, including a tied-for-seventh showing at the first-stop Hotel Fitness Championship. The Life Christian Academy graduate played at last week’s Wyndham Championship, tying for 57th (3-under-par 277).

Tee times Thursday: Putnam at 5:37 a.m. (PDT), and Moore is at 9:44 a.m. Both go off the first tee.
