This week: The Memorial Tournament, Thursday through Sunday, Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, University Place’s Michael and Andrew Putnam and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
Third-round score: Andrew Putnam shot a 2-over-par 74, and Moore shot a 3-over 75.
Positions: Moore (7-under 209) is tied for 19th, and Andrew Putnam (4-under 212) is tied for 46th — both trailing leader Justin Rose (15-under 201). Gonzales (1-over 145) and Michael Putnam (4-over 148) missed the cut Friday.
Recap: Even after thunderstorms pounded the area, the course dried out Saturday and played much tougher than it did the previous two days (just ask Tiger Woods his a third-round 85 or Phil Mickelson after his 78). After getting off to blazing starts in each of the first round rounds, Moore stumbled out of the gate Saturday. He got tangled in a greenside bunker at No. 2 and in the left rough at No. 3, leading to back-to-back bogeys. He birdied the fifth hole, but he gave back that shot one hole later when he left his chip shot from the left rough short of the green at the par-4 sixth. … Andrew Putnam spent much of the afternoon alternating birdies and bogeys. The hole that really did him in was the par-3 12th hole. He hit his tee shot into the front-side pond. After he took a penalty stroke and re-teed, his next shot sailed into the left rough, leading to a triple-bogey 6.
Tee times Sunday: Andrew Putnam at 10:02 a.m. (PDT) off the 10th tee and Moore at 8:50 a.m. off the first tee.
