WEEK 2: MONTANA GRIZZLIES

Coach: Bob Stitt.

2016 record: 6-5, 3-5 in Big Sky.

Series with UW: The Huskies lead, 14-0-1. The schools have not played each other in 66 years – not since a 58-7 UW victory in 1951. The Griz did forge their only non-loss – a 6-6 tie – in 1929.

Rewind: This is a very proud and accomplished program, winning FCS titles in 1995 and 2001. At one point, the Griz went to the national playoffs for 17 consecutive seasons. But not in 2016. Montana finished a disappointing eighth in the Big Sky, its worst showing since placing 10th in the Pacific Coast Conference in 1949.

Fall camp developments: It appears that budding star safety Josh Buss (shoulder) has fully recovered from offseason surgery. Buss led the team with 81 tackles, including 20 tackles for loss. But senior linebacker Connor Strahm, the second-leading tackler (70), was suspended last week for the first two games of the season for a summer alcohol-related charge, and won’t play against the Huskies.
