Washington Huskies’ roll call — Week 3 opponent is Fresno State

With fall camp winding down, and a few media off days on the horizon, we figured this would be a good time to make a quick rundown of the UW’s 2017 opponents:

WEEK 3: FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS

Coach: Jeff Tedford.

2016 record: 1-11, 0-8 in Mountain West (West Division).

Series with UW: The Huskies lead, 2-1. The UW won the last meeting, 21-20, in 2006. Fresno State won two years earlier, 35-16.

Rewind: It all crashed and burned on the Bulldogs last season. En route to their worst season in school history (and the only time Fresno State had lost double-digit games), they fired fifth-year coach Tim DeRuyter after eight games (1-7). Then, former UW offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau was named the interim coach the rest of the season (0-4).

Fall camp developments: One thing that has been obvious under Tedford is the upgrade in talent at most positions. That includes tailback — a position traditionally that the Bulldogs have produced valuable NFL contributors at. A pair of true freshmen, Ronnie Rivers and Jordan Mims, lead the way after last year’s leading rusher Dontel James (legs) retired from football.
