Washington Huskies’ roll call — Week 5 opponent is Oregon State

With fall camp winding down, and a few media off days on the horizon, we figured this would be a good time to make a quick rundown of the UW’s 2017 opponents:

Coach: Gary Andersen.

2016 record: 4-8, 3-6 in Pac-12 (North).

Series with UW: The Huskies lead, 55-31-2. The UW has won the past five meetings, including a 41-17 victory last season at Husky Stadium.

Rewind: Even though the Beavers were blown out a number of times (UW, Colorado, UCLA), they showed marked improvement in the one area Andersen has stressed since he arrived two seasons ago: Toughness. Bruising running back Ryan Nall sort of punctuated that attitude with his hard-nosed running, just missing out on a 1,000-yard rushing season (951 yards, 13 touchdowns) despite missing nearly three games.

Fall camp developments: Well, all that usual preseason optimism dimmed quickly after the Beavers were whooped at Colorado State, 58-27, on Saturday. It’s difficult to figure out what was worse — Oregon State’s five turnovers on offense, or no-resistence pass coverage on defense. It should get better, but if Oregon State is going to take the next step, it will have to learn to win on the road. That skid is now at 14 games.
