Huskies land two California guards for 2018 class

New University of Washington men’s basketball coach Mike Hopkins has brought in a string of athletes who can run his version of the Syracuse matchup zone.

And now he has brought in the type of outside shooters who can shred any zone defense.

Point guard Elijah Hardy, out of Bishop O’Dowd in Oakland, California, gave an oral commitment to the Huskies late Saturday night.

Hardy, a 6-foot-2 senior, chose the UW over USC and a few West Coast Conference schools.

And on Monday, Jonah Geron, a 6-foot-6 wing from Fresno, California, said he would also be part of the Huskies’ 2018 class as an invited walk-on.

Geron hails from the same high school — San Joaquin Memorial — as former UW star Quincy Poindexter, and is considered one of the top 3-point shooters in Northern California.
