Recruiting was clearly the news over the day at UW today, but coach Tyrone Willingham also offered some news on veteran players:
*Several -- he wouldn't name them -- have had minor off-season surgery, but nothing Willingham thought would endanger their availability for the season.
*He was less sure about spring availability, including the status of quarterback Carl Bonnell, who had surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder. He is scheduled start throwing in two or three weeks, but may not be cleared for spring drills.
*Tailback Michael Houston, suspended from the team last fall after being arrested in connection with the theft of a taxi, is "operating as a team member now and not just confined to his academic pursuits," Willingham said.
*Former Bellevue tailback J.R. Hasty, who hasn't played for academic reasons, "is a team member in full standing."
*Quarterback Johnny DuRocher, who underwent brain surgery in the off-season "is concentrating on baseball, and I don't know if there's any medical determination that he can play football," Willingham said.
