Washington is one of three schools with a fair claim to the 1960 national football championship, yet they have never seriously staked that claim.
The Huskies are about to move that team to status equal to the championship team of 1991 in official UW publications, and with a flag flying in Husky Stadium.
The team will be honored on Sept. 29 when the new Legends Center will open on campus, and the current Huskies will wear 1960 throwback uniforms in their game that day against USC.
The 1960 team finished 10-1 and ended the season with a 17-7 Rose Bowl win over Associated Press national champion Minnesota.
After that victory the Helms Foundation -- then a viable organization -- voted the national championship to the Huskies, while the Football Writers Association of America selected Mississippi.
