Last season, coach Tyrone Willingham instituted the tradition of awarding a golden jersey to the top practice performer of the previous practice.
He intended to continue the practice this spring, but no jerseys were awarded through the first week of practice.
That changed Tuesday, as fullback Paul Homer wore the golden jersey as apparent reward for his Monday practice.
Other notes from the Tuesday practice, which was open to the media:
&bullNo. 1 quarterback Jake Locker struggled again with throwing accuracy. Senior Carl Bonnell seemed to have the sharper day.
&bullLocker was part of the day's biggest play, as he hit Marcel Reece on a 25-yard slant, which Reece turned into a 79-yard touchdown when Reece ran out of the grasp of cornerback Jordan Murchison's grasp.
&bullBonnell's best play may have been a nice touch pass to Corey Williams down the sideline and just over linebacker E.J. Savannah.
&bull J.R. Hasty fumbled in an early drill and was sent off briefly to run the stadium stairs.
&bull Louis Rankin broke one play out side and up the sidelines, earning linebacker Matt Houston a scolding for braking containment.
&bullPunter Jared Ballman remains inconsistent.
