Huskies don't yet fit Romar's vision

“It’s a barometer for us to look back and say we need to turn up the heat here or we’re going to be pretty good in this particular situation,” Romar said today. “It just kind of showed us where we need to go from here.”

And where are they?

“At this time of year, you have a vision of what things are supposed to look like, and it looks nothing like your vision, so you just feel like maybe you’re behind,” Romar said. “If we had to go play a game tonight, I don’t know what would happen.”

He said the primary issues are improving team defense and offensive spacing.

Meanwhile:

*Senior guard Venoy Overton remains out with a hamstring injury. Romar said he hopes Overton can return the first week of November and expects him to be ready for the season-opener Nov. 13 against McNeese State.

*Romar and Thomas will represent UW on Thursday at Pac-10 Media Day in Los Angeles. “It’s something fun to do,” Thomas said. “Always being here, seeing (Jon Brockman) did it and Quincy (Pondexter) did it, I looked forward to doing it. I’m glad they picked me.”

*I'll have a look at freshman Desmond Simmons in our Wednesday paper. (And Romar said today he doesn't expect either of his freshmen -- Simmons and Terrence Ross -- to redshirt.)
