Romar explains playing with some lights out

A bank of lights at Hec Edmundson Pavilion went out about four minutes into the Huskies game against Stanford. Most of the lights remained on, but the arena was notably darker than usual when lights in the arena -- and more across campus -- went out due to a power surge.

The referees stopped the game for a while, then huddled with both coaches, and then the game resumed in the darker conditions before full lighting was restored about 20 minutes later.

Coach Lorenzo Romar offered this explanation for the decision to continue playing.

"(The officiating crew) asked us were we comfortable going on with the game. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘This has happened to us in practice before, so I’m comfortable with it.’ (Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins) finally said, ‘How do you feel about it?’ I said, ‘Johnny, this happen in practice sometimes.’ So he said, ‘So obviously you want to play.’ So we kind of laughed about it. But they did a good job of getting the lights back on, and everything was OK."
