Game thread: UW 30, EWU 27 (final)

Fourth quarter

Final -- EWU did what it needed using it's timeouts and getting a stop. Bo Levi Mitchell led the team right down the field but tossed an interception to Desmond Trufant in the game's final moments to save the win. I think it's safe to say the Huskies are fortunate to win this game.

3:50 -- Bo Levi Mitchell hits Nick Edwareds with a touchdown to  cut it to 30-27.

9:37 -- Erik Folk 40-yard field goal. Huskies stay mostly on the ground trying to eat up clock. UW up 30-20.

Third quarter

:44 -- The Huskies get a break when Greg Herd is whistled for offensive pass interference on a touchdown pass. But no, matter on third and 26 from the 43-yard line and with the Huskies in their dime package (six defensive backs), Bo Levi Mitchell hits Herd for a 43-yard TD pass Greg Ducre on a go route. To be fair, Ducre was there but the throw was perfect and Herd just was better than  Ducre on the play.

2:44 -- Well the Huskies get a gift. They are forced to punt, but Kiel Rasp's punt bounces off the head of Darrielle Beaumonte and Antony Gobern alertly covered it, giving UW new like. The Huskies capitalized as Keith Price hit Kasen Williams for the first of many expected touchdown catches. This one from 6 yards out.  With the Folk PAT, the Huskies lead 27-13

6:23 -- Jermaine Kearse has yet to return after injuring his knee early in the game. He's still in pads, but its likely he's done. Sarkisian confirmed to Elise Woodward that Keith Price does  have a knee injury. It's supposedly not serious and Price is still playing and still wearing the brace.

Second Quarter

:07 -- Mike Jarrett boots a 28-yard field goal to cut it to 20-13. Eastern might have had one more chance to throw it in the endzone, but Beau Baldwin's clock management was a little Les Miles-esque.

3:29 -- Garrett Gilliland's interception of Bo Levi Mitchell set up Erik Folk's  47-yard field goal. One thing to note, quarterback Keith Prices seems to have dinged up his right knee a little. Price is wearing the protective stick brace now and is limping when he runs.

5:25 -- Erik Folk booted a 53-yard field goal. The score was set up by a 26 yard run by Chris Polk. Huskies had a sure touchdown but Kevin Smith's attempt at at diving catch fell just out of his hands.

7:21 -- Huskies get a stop on fourth and 7 after giving up a 24 yard completion on 2nd and 21. There are holes in the secondary right now. There will need to be some adjustments made at halftime.

UW does a solid job answering the Eastern score. A big return on the kickoff by Jesse Callier got things going. The Huskies needed 11 plays and converted on fourth and 1 along the way to set up Keith Price's 9-yard touchdown pass to James Johnson in the back of the end zone.  Price got a big block from tackle Senio Kelemete, who basically neutralized defensive end David Gaylord allowing Price to scramble with ease, draw the linebackers in and then toss it to a wide-open Johnson

First quarter

2:14 -- EWU gets a 28 yard field goal from former TNT all-area kicker and Puyallup grad Mike Jarrett to go up 10-7. UW should have a pick in the end zone when a pass bounced off the hands of Desmond Trufant. But then again, Sean Parker held the receiver on the play and didn't get it so, I guess it evens out.

9:08 -- The Husk8es make a great play defensively on third and 10 when Hau'oli Jamora stuffs a draw play for a 2-yard loss, but on fourth and 12 from the 32 yard line, EWU decides to go for it and Bo Levi Mitchell scrambles and finds a wide open Ashton Clark on the sideline. It was a short throw and an easy untouched jaunt into the endzone for Clark.  It's now 7-7 . There was a busted coverage on the plat but not sure who missed the assignment.

11:26 -- The Huskies made their mark on special teams early. After their first drive stalled out thanks to a tripping penalty, UW was forced to punt. Desmond Trufant forced EWU returner Matt Johnson to drop the ball which Greg Ducre picked up and ran into the end zone. It seemed like a sure touchdown. But referees ruled it a muff and you can't return a muffed punt.

No matter, UW needed just three plays to put it in as Keith Price connected with fullback Jonathan Amosa on a play action pass into the flats for a 7-yard touchdown. Erik Folk made the PAT. UW leads 7-0.
