Game updates: Washington 31, Cal 23 (Final)

Fourth quarter

Final -  Cal gets 1st and goal at the 2 yard line and the Huskies find a way to not give up the touchdown and save the win. Not sure what Jeff Tedford was doing on a couple of the calls. Particularly the decision to throw the fade route to Keenan Allen on fourth and goal, a pass that Zach Maynard wasn't even close to. UW improves to 3-1 and 1-0 in the Pac 12, while Calls to 3-1 and 0-1 in conference

12:13 -- The Cal defense goes into their Husky coverage on third and 12 as Chris Polk runs right up the seam and Keith Price hits him with a pretty pass for a 70-yard TD. Great call. Huskies were working on that play all week. Never ran as well as that moment.

Third Quarter

1:45 -- Outside linebacker John Timu took a knee to the head while making a tackle. He's being placed on the backboard and taken off the field in an ambulance.

2:06 -- a nice 54-yard kick return by Kevin Smith gave UW great field position. But a costly chop block by Colin Porter stymied the drive. Erik  Folk booted a 40-yard field goal gives the Huskies a 24-23 lead

7:51 -- Cal takes a 23-21 lead on a Giorgio Tavecchio 25-yard field goal. The Bears really should have had a touchdown. They had first and goal at the five, but Zach Maynard bobbled a pass attempt and had to fall on the fumble for a loss of seven hurting the Bears.

HALFTIME STATS

Washington 267 yards total offense, Cal 261 yards total offense.

UW

Keith Price: 12-of-16 for 179 and two TDs

Chris Polk:  10 carries, 37 yards, 1 TD

Austin Seferian-Jenkins: 3 catches, 48 yards, 2 TDs

CAL

Zach Maynard: 11-of-19, 217 yards, 1 TD

Marvin Jones: 5 catches, 65 yards

Keenan Allen: 3 catches, 125 yards, 1 TD

Isi Sofele: 8 carries, 53 yards.

Second Quarter

1:20 -- Keith Price makes his first real mistake of the game, getting stripped on a scramble  by Cal. The Bears recovered and eight plays later, CJ Anderson plowed his way into the end zone for a touchdown. UW leads 21-20

5:13 -- Cal boots another field goal as a drive bogged down in the red zone. It's as good as stop, but really UW should have been of the field. On third and 10, Zach Maynard found Keenan Allen for a 14 yard completion as Quinton Richardson continues to struggle.

8:51 -- Keith Price is absolutely clicking right now. He hit Kevin Smith on a big third and 10 play for 12 yards to keep the drive going. There was a 24 yard completion to James Johnson and then a nice call on a backside tight end screen to Austin Seferian-Jenkins for another 20-yrd TD. Huskies lead 21-10.

12:57 --Cal answers with a field goal on a 13 play drive. But the bad part is that Hau'oli Jamora suffered a knee injury early in the drive and is out. Josh Shirley has taken his place. Also of note, Garrett Gilliland has been playing every series at outside linebacker in place of Princeton Fuiamaono

First quarter

3:30 -- Washington gets a rare three and out, and then they March down the field, using a lot of Chris Polk and some dumb penalties from Cal, including a tough pass interference call in the end zone on Steve Williams. Polk punched it in from 2 yards out for the touchdown.

8:39 -- UW answers. Keith Price hits Devin Aguilar for a 44 yard game, and then on the next play, Price stays alive, sidestepping the rush and finding Austin Seferian-Jenkins open at the 10-yard line. ASJ does the rest making  a nice spin move to get in the end zone. It's 7-7

10:01 - Remember the talk about the Huskies defense being better this week, well on third down and 20, they blow a coverage and Zach Maynard hits his half-brother Keenan Allen wide open right down the middle of the UW secondary. Allen then makes Desmond Trufant look silly and runs away from Quinton Richardson for a 90-yard touchdown reception. It's the longest in school history for a school that's been playing football since the 1800s. Cal leads 7-0
