No. 3 California 82, No. 6 Southern California 67

Just tipped, and Nick Young has hit the shot of the tournament: a super-spinning scoop that somehow whirred into the hoop.

Almost five minutes in, it's Cal, 9-6.

About 10 minutes in, it's shaping up as a good one. The teams are tied at 17, and the stars are shining: seven points from Cal's Leon Powe and USC's Nick Young.

Halftime: USC 33, Cal 31.

Nick Young has 13 for the Trojans. Gabe Pruitt looks healthy wih nine. Cal's top scorer -- and you could have gotten pretty good odds against this -- is Eric Vierneisel with eight. The sophomore forward averaged less than two points during the season. Powe got those early seven, but disappeared thereafter.

2ND half

11:20 left and the Bears are creating some daylight: 51-42.

3:31: Cal was cruising. USC made a run. Cal answered. 72-61.

3:08: Oh, man. GHabe Pruitt has been playing a beautiful game for USC -- 22 points and looking mighty healthy after returning from his knee injury. Unfortunately, he just smacked his left leg on a chair behind the cheerleaders along the baseline, and as I type this, the trainier is working on his right calf/ankle. Here's hoping.

Pruitt's back in ... but apparently in a losing cause. It's Cal, 77-65, in the final two minutes.

Final, 82-67.

I probably won't be able to file many details on this one ... time to get ready for the Huskies and Ducks.
