No. 1 UCLA 79 vs. No. 9 Oregon State 47

It took UCLA a little over five minutes to get the lead into double digits, and that was that. The final margin was the largest in Pac-10 tournament history.

Oregon State's point total was the second fewest in tournament history, a point more than the Beavers scored vs. Cal in 2003.

OSU played without Sasa Cuic, who suffered an ankle sprain last night against Arizona State. Combined with the previous losses of Nick DeWitz and Lamar Hurd, the Beavers just didn't have the talent to match the Bruins.

OSU's Marcel Jones led all scorers with a career-high 19 points. Ryan Hollins led UCLA with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Lorenzo Mata returned to the Bruins lineup for the first time since January, playing five minues.

Speaking of minutes, the one-sidedness of the game allowed coach Ben Howland to limit everyone's playing time to 24 minutes or less, which could pay off in a tournament that demands three games in three days.

UCLA coach Ben Howland, looking ahead to Arizona tomorrow: "Lute Olson is one of the greatest coaches of all time. I have to say that he and Coach Wooden are the best coaches in the history of the Pac-10."

OSU coach Jay John: "UCLA did what they always do: play great defense and with team energy. If we had all of our guys healthy ... it wouldn't have been 32 (point differential).

Here's running from earlier:

Apparently there's no need to play this game. Arizona coach Lute Olson just said his Wildcats are looking forward to playing UCLA again tomorrow.

Still, Pac-10 officials seem determined to humor everyone and play the game anyway.

We'll keep you posted.

1st half, 14:35: UCLA 12, OSU 2 (That Olson knows his basketball...)

1st half 5:48: UCLA 26, OSU 14. Cedrick Bozeman just went down along the baseline into a pile of cheerleaders and photographers. He was helped to the bench and is out of the game for now.

Halftime: UCLA 38, OSU 27. (OSU's Jason Fontenet hit a buzzer-beater from just across midcourt.) Ryan Hollins has 12 points for UCLA. Marcel Jones has 12 for the Beavers. Sasa Cuic isn't playing due to a high ankle sprain suffered last night in OSU's win over Arizona State.

It just went final: UCLA 79, OSU 47.

Cal-USC tips in about an hour.
