Here was coach Lorenzo Romar's opening statement:
"We’re excited to start our season. It’s been a long summer, but I think a prosperous summer. I think our guys are very anxious to get back and be together as a group. I think our guys individually, almost to a man, worked very hard this off-season to prepare for this upcoming year. Obviously we start here in a couple of days and we’re looking forward to it. We’ve got a challenging schedule, starting in the beginning, and I think with an improved Pac-10 play we’re going to have to be an improved basketball team in order to be successful this year."
Here is the current UW roster, which -- it was pointed out -- returns a lot of key players from last season's 26-10, Pac-10 tournament-champion, Sweet 16 team.
"2006 was the last time we had this many returners that were contributors that I can remember," Romar said. So it is good to have some familiar faces that have experienced success. Sometimes we’ve have returners, but those weren’t the guys that have had a big impact on our season as much as we’ve had this year."
