Countdown to UW kickoff . . . Locker playing through rib injury

Hola! Nice and warm in Tucson as the Wildcats prepare for their 125th anniversary as a university.

The north end zone has been turned into a party zone - a tarped dome full of food-buzzing fans. There is a stage sponsored by a local radio station set for music. Lots of red and white down there. Should be a fun afternoon for the locals.

A little under the weather. Spent the night in Tempe, then made the 105-mile drive this afternoon. Saw:

* A good share of casinos and golf courses.* A good share of sofa cushions along the side of the highway.* Surprisingly, a good share of fans making the drive for the game from the greater Phoenix area (plus, ASU is at Cal today).

Since we're on super late deadline (which figures to get later and later with the game being televised, and interrupted for commercials, on ESPN), I dug into some of the numbers to come up with a possible quote-less notebook to send into the office by the second half.

And I didn't realize the kind of season Jermaine Kearse is having for the Huskies. Consider:

* With one more touchdown catch, he'd become the fourth UW player to haul in 10 or more receiving TDs in a season.

* His 107 career receptions are tied with Todd Elstrom for 12th all-time.

* His 1,790 career yards are sixth all-time.

* His 19 TD catches are third all-time.

Will be back with some pre-game updates later. Looks like kickoff will be at 7:21 p.m., and possibly later if ESPN goes late.

** UPDATE I: At 5 p.m. ... From my man, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, who has been wandering the streets behind the stadium the past hour, and apparently found out that outside linebacker Victor Aiyewa, who was rested Wednesday, is out tonight. Princeton Fuimaono, who did see time with the No. 1 defense last week, will make his first start. ... Also, receiver James Johnnson did not make the trip. Apparently he has a flu bug.

** UPDATE II: At 6 p.m. ... Notables who made the travel roster include running back Cole Sager (wasn't at BYU), fullback Dorson Boyce (left off for USC trip) and defensive end Josh Shirley (not at USC). ... Again, receiver James Johnson is back in Seattle because of illness, and cornerback Anthony Boyles did not come with the team.

** UPDATE III: 6:15 p.m. ... This just in, Jake Locker (ribs) could be limited. It was an injury apparently suffered him in the Oregon State game, and has ailed him all week and forced him to miss practice time. It is serious enough that Keith Price could find himself running the offense. Stay tuned.

** UPDATE IV: 6:30 p.m. ... Locker is out throwing passes, but his right rib area is heavily padded. Could be just that, or a protective jacket of some sort. Will be interesting to see how much he plays.
