Days before bowl departure, Izbicki leaves Huskies

Another extended break, another UW tight end bites the dust.

Months have being declared one of the team leaders poised to have a breakout season, junior Chris Izbicki has left the Huskies this week - just days before the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30, a university spokesperson confirmed to The Associated Press.

No reason for Izbicki quitting the team was given.

The Kirkland product had played in 10 of the team's 12 games, but a shoulder injury really derailed his status as the undisputed starter. Marlion Barnett and Dorson Boyce has seen an uptick in the action in recent weeks.

Izbicki, who had just two receptions for 16 yards, including a touchdown catch against Southern California, was not part of the Huskies team in 2008 after former coach Tyrone Willingham suspended him for reckless personal behavior.

Last offseason, Lakes High graduate Kavario Middleton was dismissed for reported failed drug tests. Middleton tried to enroll at Nebraska before joining Montana just days before the start of the regular season.
